Downtown Master Plan & Ongoing Sales Tax Conversations
Last week, the City Board of Directors and Mayor Scott were presented with the final version of the Downtown Master Plan. Here are a few takeaways:
Mixed use developments, housing, and transit are highlighted throughout the master plan, but are not prioritized in the downtown investment strategy for this sales tax initiative.
The board has questions about how much implementing the Downtown Master Plan would cost. Something I found pretty insightful was a recent $11M grant that Siloam Springs recently won to revitalize their Main Street. It’s for a 0.75 mile stretch (the equivalent distance from 12th Street to 2nd).
The indoor sports complex was dropped into the Master Plan in an effort to better connect it with the sales tax initiative. A big $60M shiny new project (sound familiar, Strong Towns readers?).
If you missed it, we queued up the presentation and Q&A for you below. If there are any additional comments and questions you have, be sure to bring them to your Ward Director.
